The Swift Water Rescue Team performs water rescues when people become trapped in fast rising waters. Even though most people think of flash flooding in the desert area and have probably watched rescues of this kind on television, the White Mountain area experiences the same kind of flooding only the high rising water is usually caused by snow melt off, or as in the case Summer 1999, when the area received over 40 inches of rain in just a couple of months. Just as the case in the desert, we strongly urge people never to cross a roadway when it is flooded.
